Life Lately: Our Canine Invalid

The last week has been filled with all sorts of delightful activities. Although it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to muster the enthusiasm and energy to leave the couch (Scandal marathon anyone?), we have been forcing ourselves to say yes to most invites and brilliant ideas. Having a rambunctious animal has made it easier to get to the park for snow ball fights and general fun-having. I’ve found myself wandering around the house singing “Do you wanna build a snowman? Okay byeeee….” which Husband somehow takes seriously enough for us to be on our way to the park in minutes. For some unknown reason, Bella hates snowmen. She has to be physically restrained in order for us to complete it. If she’s let loose, she immediately launches her small body near its torso and proceeds to swipe and dig until it’s gone. Odd.

We’ve been having severe London withdrawals this week as well. I’ve been googling pictures non-stop and browsing our pictures incessantly. I’d give anything to go back right this minute. I’d willingly endure the chilly weather without question. Must. Visit. Harrods. Must see Coriolanus. Sigh.

The final bit of news is that Bella scared us all with a visit to the vet! It was an awful night. We noticed her  behavioral changes first: drowsiness, lack of interest in cats…you know. She then began trembling violently, which was absolutely terrifiying. When she’d move, she’d whimper like she had been stepped on. We rushed her to the vet, urgent care, then back to urgent care for x-rays, antibiotics and pain meds. She was finally diagnosed with severe constipation (ha), which caused her stomach to press against her spine, thus restricting her movement. We are so grateful it wasn’t a serious condition and that our little pup is back to her usual, happy self!

On My Mind

Has anyone else been suffering from winter blues? I’m not necessarily fed up with winter, but the charm and magic is definitely starting to wane. I’ve made gingerbread houses, I’ve been ice skating, had an adorable snowball fight with my husband and have consumed enough hot chocolate to rival Buddy (yes, the elf). Although there are still several ski days, adorably layered outfits and snowshoeing to do, I’m always open to some pre-spring online browsing. These are my favorites from this week thanks to their soft, cheerful colors. Anyone else care to take a warm weather trip? I’m totally there.

Feeling Festive

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever taken pictures of Bella that I love more than these. Her obvious disdain for having her head covered and being restricted is amazingly entertaining. Aren’t the holidays grand? Through the frustrations of the shoots, it’s great to look back and have these pictures! Her fussing and whining are absolutely worth it. Plus, she generally gets rewarded with white chocolate dipped bones. It’s a win-win, right? We hope your holiday preparations are going well – have a marvelous Wednesday!

Weekend Digest: Christmas Prep

The past week and weekend have been so wonderful. Everyone still seems to be maintaining their Christmas spirit – I’ve only had one parking spot deliberately stolen! It doesn’t seem like the panic and haste have set in, so we are still enjoying being out in public. We spent the week decorating and planning out the gifts we are going to give. On Thursday evening, we attended my company party, which was quite the experience. The owner of the company I work for is unbelievably hilarious and had a version of Deal of No Deal set up. Everyone selected a bag and he would basically bargain with the person while on stage. I nervously stepped up and refused to sell him my bag for $20 only to discover that it was completely empty! I wasn’t worried because generally, an empty bag means a hidden message inside worth $100 or so dollars. My entire table tore the bag apart trying to find an actual prize. Nope. It was empty. Near the end of the night, he called everyone that had won $20 or less to the stage again. There were a certain number of bags left over and everyone was able to select one. My small bag contained an envelope that I quickly opened to find…nothing. Yup, out of 300+ bags, I selected the only two that were legitimately empty (he confirmed this the next day). My face must have looked horrified because he said “What?! [satisfied laughter] I’ll give you $100!” The entire company was completely amazed that I was “lucky” enough to select both empty bags. Naturally. All in all, it was an entertaining night with my husband and all my fun coworkers.
On Saturday we spent the entire day shopping and we’re nearly finished! Walking around crowded malls is one of my favorite activities, but poor Jack doesn’t seem to enjoy it nearly as much. Well, at all actually. If you ever want to torture him, subject him to Costco on a Saturday. Which is why I was beyond thrilled that he was amazingly upbeat and enthusiastic about shopping for ten hours. We had a lovely dinner at Chipotle to finish the day. I couldn’t have enjoyed a day more. Laughing and talking with my best friend while shopping is truly the best way to spend a Saturday. Hope you all had a stellar weekend as well!
